The inspiration for both lines, "Firenze" and "Santa Fe" came from their respective locations. The concept for the Firenze line was established while living in Florence (Firenze) Italy. I found myself enamored by the sophistication of Italian design, along with the history of the ancient ceramic artifacts of Pompeii and the world famous Venitian glass. "Santa Fe" has an emphasis on form and the play on positive and negative space. The architecture in Santa Fe, NM and the entire Southwest emphasizes these elements. Each pendant is hand formed out of a porcelain clay, then painted with an underglaze for the base color. After the bisque fire, both lines receive a second glaze and are re-fired at a higher temperature. The Firenze line has glass fused in with the glaze to create the crystallizing effect. Upon the completion of the firing process, each pendant is placed on a sterling silver wire. |
